Education Sector Building Condition Surveys

Tony Jackson BSc (Hons) MRICS has undertaken a considerable number of building condition surveys for clients in the education sector, aiding them in effective school estate management. He also performs due diligence surveys of independent schools prior to their acquisition by multi-academy trusts (MATs).

These education surveys typically span five-year planning periods and involve a comprehensive inspection of the building fabric, including roofs, walls, curtain walling, windows, doors, external surfaces, internal finishes, and toilet accommodation. Additionally, the reports provide commentary on statutory matters such as fire safety and asbestos. Utilizing DfE-recognised condition and priority gradings, the reports include cost estimates within a planned maintenance schedule, accompanied by photographs.

Such reports illustrate that the client has thoughtfully considered the repair and maintenance needs of the building and fully comprehends the situation upon acquisition, ensuring that relevant matters are adequately addressed and budgeted for.

In addition to his extensive experience serving education sector clients, Tony, as a consultant to AtkinsRéalis, has conducted around five hundred surveys of schools and colleges as part of the Condition Data Collection programme for the DfE, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of the school estate.
